What Changed in 2026

As of April 1, 2026, CMS launched the Substance Access Beneficiary Engagement Incentive (BEI) program. For the first time, qualifying Medicare patients can receive up to $500 per year in oral CBD products through their physician at no charge. The program runs through CMS Innovation Center model organizations, ACO REACH (senior care networks) and the Enhancing Oncology Model (cancer care programs). A third type, the LEAD Model for long-term care, joins in January 2027.

This isn't standard Medicare drug coverage. It doesn't work through a pharmacy. Your doctor's organization provides products directly. There's no claim to submit and no pharmacy copay. See full details at innovation.cms.gov.

What It Means for Seniors
